Were you once a person who jotted down lyrics in a notebook, strummed a guitar in your dorm room or local venue, or even recorded albums - but life suddenly became “too busy” once you became a parent? Part coven, part creative process workshop, part support group for parents, this is a workshop for caregivers who want to get reacquainted with a previous creative process or are becoming interested in finding a creative outlet in songwriting. For those who often prioritize others, this is a workshop to help prioritize creative flow.
As a professional musician and a mother of 2 small kids, Anna will share on how to establish and protect time for your creative work, tips and tricks to jump-start you back into a creative process, and demystify the process of being a working songwriter while also being a working parent. This workshop will explore the double edged sword of magic and mayhem that is both parenting and, surprisingly, songwriting. Bring an instrument - all participants will have time to work on the start of a song during a speedwriting session. Students will leave with an accountability partner (if desired) and a month’s worth of emailed prompts from Anna after the session, as well as a handout of songwriting prompts.
All nonbinary & female-identifying caregivers (of any generation - parents, children, nurses, grandparents etc.) are welcome. Basic songwriting knowledge is required/encouraged.
